About us

Muslim women have the lowest economic activity rate of any group in the UK. In 2003/4, less than one in 3 Muslim women had a paid job, compared to 2 in 3 non-Muslim women*. Things are changing though, as many Muslim girls are doing well at school and pushing the boundaries to enter a wide range of jobs and careers.

On this website, you can read 12 real life stories of Muslim women who have broken through barriers to work in jobs which are a little bit different. Yara, Saida, Lara, Shabana, Amina, Almeena, Mez, Sobia, Aleesha, Farrah, Fazia and Saima talk about their career choices. They explain what inspired them, how they got where they are today, how they overcome any issues they faced along the way and most importantly, why they love what they do.

Our aims

  • to inspire the next generation of young Muslim women to follow their dreams and to realise their full potential in the world of work. There is a whole world of possibilities out there – Go for it!
  • to encourage parents and other family members to support Muslim girls to follow their dreams. Many of the women featured on this website say that they could not have got where they are today without knowing that their families were behind them.
  • to show the wider community positive examples of Muslim women making  a difference
